# Use your phone as a remote and keyboard

Typing a long playlist address with a TV remote is no fun. With Zapvo, your phone takes over: as a remote, a keyboard and a touchpad, and it can send what you watch to the TV.

## On the same Wi-Fi: no app needed

1. On the TV, open Zapvo › Settings › Phone remote. A code appears on the screen.
2. Scan it with your phone's camera. A remote opens in the phone's browser.
3. Type, use the arrow keys or the touchpad, add a source or send a playlist file.

The connection is encrypted from end to end, and the code changes every two minutes and works only once. You can remove a phone on the TV at any time.

## With the Zapvo app on your phone

If Zapvo is on your phone too, it finds the TV on your network by itself. Then you can use **Play on TV**: start a channel or movie on the phone and send it to the big screen.

## From another home: connect with a code

Setting up a TV for your parents? On their TV, Zapvo shows a short code like `K7P-2QX`. On your phone, open Zapvo › Settings › Control a TV › Connect with a code and type it. It works across networks, even on mobile data.

The code is checked by both devices; our relay only passes encrypted messages and can't read them.

## And Chromecast?

Zapvo can also cast supported streams to a Chromecast. If Zapvo is already on the TV, Play on TV is the more reliable way: every stream plays, with all of Zapvo's features.
