Car TV on Android: how to watch IPTV in your car

Whether you can watch TV in the car depends on its screen: some cars run apps themselves, others only show a phone. Here is what works where, and how to set up Zapvo.

  1. Check for Google built-in

If the car's screen has Google Play, the car has Google built-in (Android Automotive OS) and runs apps itself.

  2. Install Zapvo while parked

Open Google Play on the car's screen, search for Zapvo and install it.

  3. Add your playlist

Enter your M3U link or Xtream Codes login, as on your phone or TV. Video plays while the car is parked.

Which car screens can play IPTV?

  • Cars with Google built-in (Android Automotive OS): apps run on the car itself, and video apps such as Zapvo play while the car is parked.
  • Android Auto: the car shows the apps of the phone connected to it. Passengers can watch with Zapvo on an Android phone or tablet.
  • Apple CarPlay: the car shows an iPhone's apps. Zapvo is made for Android, so passengers watch it on an Android phone or tablet.

Why video only plays while parked

The driver mustn't be distracted, and cars with Google built-in enforce it. As soon as the car moves, Zapvo pauses picture and sound; once you park, it continues where it stopped.

Car TV for passengers

On a trip, passengers can watch on a phone or tablet with Zapvo, using a hotspot or the car's Wi-Fi. An hour of HD uses about 2–4 GB of mobile data.
